Ft. Lauderdale is a popular tourist destination due to it's beautiful beaches, temperate climate, and thriving night life & entertainment districts. Las Olas Boulevard especially has seen major development over the past decade. Although once known mainly as a spring break tourist destination the city has actively discouraged college students from visiting the area since the mid 1980's. Today, the city mainly attracts tourists and residents of the more affluent variety. Ft. Lauderdale is the county seat of Broward County and also features the popular Broward Center Of Performing Arts theater.
